Brain Bee Prep Session

A free virtual neuroscience course for kids, run as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association.

What it was

Our first event was a free virtual neuroscience course for kids. We taught the basics of how the brain works — the same material students meet in a first neuroscience course — and we charged nothing for it.

Instead of a fee, we invited families who were able to give to support the Alzheimer’s Association. Together, the families who joined raised $1,440 for Alzheimer’s research and care.

Why we ran it this way

Charging for a course is the fastest way to keep out the kids who need it most. So we did the opposite: the teaching stayed free, and anyone who wanted to support the cause did it through the Alzheimer’s Association rather than through us.

That model has not changed since. It is how every NeuroSpark program works.
